Labrador training infographic for Puppy Training using Positive Reinforcement methods.
Something you should focus on once you get your puppy is making your Labrador Retriever fall in love with you. Labrador puppies will respond to you more willingly if you aren’t always demanding things of them. It doesn’t matter if you have a chocolate lab, a yellow lab or another color, your lab puppy will love you if there is a balance of training sessions and play. It’s important for you to create a balance of deposits into your puppy’s behavior bank and also withdraws. If you expect your puppy to constantly give, give, give and you never give them fun times, rest times or time to be a puppy, then you may run into problems with them wanting to please you.
Labs love paying attention to you, are easy to train, and are good family dogs for this reason. You could become the all work and no play guy! It’s not a good idea, don’t be that guy! Be sure to create a balance of work and play with your dog and when you need them to obey a certain command or maybe do something they really didn’t want to, you’ll have an easier time getting them to comply!

You may even want to think of mixing work and play for your pup! Games are always a great way that your puppy can have fun while working. Don’t forget the reward! While rewards come in all shapes and sizes, a treat will likely make anything more fun for your dog. Consider the value of the treat you are giving as either regular reward or high reward.
